Paying attention to security and privacy in social networks and messengers has special importance. WhatsApp, like other messaging apps, offers features in its settings menu that relate to user privacy settings. By increasing WhatsApp privacy, you can communicate with others in a secure environment. In the following, we will talk about WhatsApp privacy and security settings.

Introducing WhatsApp privacy and security settings

1-Hiding conversations in WhatsApp

WhatsApp provides a conversation archiving option for any conversation that you want to hide from others, and will help increase WhatsApp privacy. Touch the conversation you want to hide, and then tap Archive from the top bar. You can see the archived conversations at the bottom of the conversation list.

2- Restricting visibility in WhatsApp

Restricting Visibility is one of the WhatsApp privacy and security settings.  Last seen shows other people the last time you used WhatsApp. You can set this case to My Contacts or Nobody. Keep in mind that selecting the latter mode disables your ability to view other people’s Last Seen status.

To do this matter, follow the path below:

-IOS: WhatsApp> Settings> Account> Privacy

-Android: WhatsApp> Menu Button> Setting> Account> Privacy

3- Customizing notifications in WhatsApp:

Previewing received messages has its benefits, but it also allows others to see your messages. WhatsApp Privacy and security settings allow you to disable this feature and increasing the privacy of WhatsApp.

To do this matter, follow the path below:

WhatsApp> Settings> Notifications> Show Notification

In this section, disable the Show Notifications option.

Note: Disabling this option for Message Notifications and Group Notifications.

4- Two-step confirmation of WhatsApp privacy and security

One of the best WhatsApp privacy and security settings is two-step confirmation. This feature provides another Whatsapp security step in the form of a six-digit numeric PIN, and offers another way to prevent others from accessing your account and increasing WhatsApp privacy. These settings are available from the following path:

-IOS: WhatsApp> Settings> Account> Two-Step Verification

-Android: WhatsApp> Menu Button> Settings> Account> Two-Step Verification

In this section, touch Enable and follow the instructions to create your six-digit PIN with the backup email address so the steps are done in order and WhatsApp privacy is complete.

5-Hiding WhatsApp photos

By defaulting, your phone’s gallery app automatically saves any photos or videos that you download and upload in WhatsApp. This can be problematic, as the content of the app can now be easily viewed by anyone who logs in your phone gallery app. But in WhatsApp privacy and security settings we can prevent this matter from happening. To do this case, open the File Manager program. Then go to Internal Storage. Find the WhatsApp folder.

Then touch and hold the Media folder, select Rename in the drop-down menu, and rename it to <Media> by adding a starting point to the Media folder.

6- Restricting viewing of WhatsApp profile picture by others

Not allow to view WhatsApp photos by others can help to protect your privacy. Doing so, launch WhatsApp and select more options that look like the three dots in the bottom right corner of the screen. Select the Settings option. In this section, select the account option and then touch the privacy option. Now select the Profile photo option. Now select any of the three options you want.

-Everyone: All WhatsApp users can see your profile picture.

-My contacts: Only people in your contact list can see your profile picture.

-Nobody: Your profile picture will not be displayed to anyone.

7- Blocking people for WhatsApp Privacy and security reason

Receiving annoying messages and requests from strangers and people who are not on the contact list is a problem that many users face it; fortunately, you can block anonymous and intrusive people through WhatsApp Privacy and security settings.

8-Changing the visibility status of others in WhatsApp

Status is a feature that lets other users know if you are online now or not. The last visit shows the last time you were online, but status indicates that you are online or offline at this time. Not being able to view the status if you wish can help protect your privacy.
