How to protect Instagram account from hackers?

-Disable access to suspicious apps

1-Choose a strong password

As more users create Instagram accounts, more hacking and phishing attempts are made.

The number one culprit? Weak password

Once you’ve got a potential password, plug it into How Secure Is My Password for a final check – This will tell you if your password is strong enough to withstand a hacking attempt.

Tip: Always check the legitimacy of emails you receive (sender’s name, email address, URL linking to it) and never give your password to someone you don’t know or trust to protect yourself from possible phishing attacks.

2: Turn on two-step authentication.

To protect Instagram, Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of defense against hackers. How it works? This is a multi-step process that requires users to verify their identity through a security code. If you log into Instagram from an unknown device, you’ll be asked to enter the code and confirm that it’s you.

To enable two-step authentication on Instagram, go to your settings and tap Two-step authentication. Tap “Get Started” and you’ll have two options to choose from: “Authentication App (recommended)” and “Text Message.”

If you already have an authenticator app installed, Instagram will automatically find the app and send a code to it. You need to retrieve the code, enter it in Instagram and two-step authentication will be turned on. If you don’t have an authenticator app, Instagram will recommend one that you download before completing the process.

If your account does not have a verified phone number, you will be prompted to enter a phone number. Once you have entered your phone number, tap the “Next” button.

Now when you log into your Instagram account from an unknown device, you will be asked to enter a security code that you receive via SMS.

Tip: Beware of suspicious Instagram DMs and never share your personal information to protect Instagram. Instagram recently shared a warning via the @creators account about increasing Instagram phishing attempts.

3- Make sure your email account is secure

Suppose your Instagram account and several other accounts are linked to your email account. If someone has access to one, they have access to all. In a recent survey, 22 percent of Internet users said their online accounts had been hacked at least once, while 14 percent reported being hacked more than once.

So, it’s a good idea to secure your email with two-factor authentication or email encryption. These easy deterrents can greatly protect Instagram account from hackers.

4- Disable access to suspicious apps

Using Instagram as an authorized account to log into suspicious apps such as dating services, games, and photo editing tools. But did you know that even if you haven’t used these apps for weeks, months, or even years, they may be accessing your social media profile and account information?

And if their database is targeted, your details are understandable. That’s why Instagram suggests “think before licensing a suspicious app.” To manage suspicious apps, open your Instagram profile on your desktop computer, click the Settings button, and then click Apps & Websites.

Here you will find a list of apps that you have permission to access. If you notice any suspicious apps, you can easily click the “Revoke Access” or “View & Edit” button.

What should you do if your account is hacked?

-Try to reset your password. By doing so o time, attackers may not be able to disconnect your email from your account.

-Notify as many people as possible that your account has been hacked. Stay in touch with your friends and loved ones. Post a message about it on social media. If people know that your account has been hacked, they are less likely to fall for the scammers, even if the attackers send requests in your name. For example, fraudsters may message all your contacts on your friends that there is an emergency and you need money badly.

Scan your computer using reputable antivirus software to ensure you are not infected with any password-stealing malware.
